Haunted School. October 28 to October 31 – 8pm. If you think your school is bad, you need to check out Mayhem Manor, Bertram VonMayhem’s school for the misfit, misguided, and misunderstood. Admission is just $5/ person or buy one get one free with a non-perishable food item. Several years ago, a man named Bertram VonMayhem moved into the Pilot Community. He was a very secretive and strange man. No one in the community ever really knew much about him. Almost immediately upon his move here, he opened a private school and became the Headmaster. He named it Mayhem Manor after himself. No one in the community was allowed on the premises. The students were all from out of town. Rumor has it they were all orphans that no one wanted for this reason or that. Many people, including locals, deemed them “Mayhem’s Misfits”. No one quite knows exactly the things that went on in this school, but all the locals had their own ideas. You could often hear loud, strange noises coming from the building all hours of the day. Local farmers started missing their livestock and other animals. They all just seemed to disappear into thin air. The local children and teens often tried to sneak onto the school grounds. Many were never heard from again. Those lucky few that made it out alive, went mad and were forever rendered speechless. They were put away into institutions where they sit and babble inaudible slurs into their pillows, never sleeping again. Then one day, news came around that VonMayhem had “passed away”. Before any investigation could be done, the school was abandoned. No trace of VonMayhem or his students was to be found. It was simply like it never happened. Some say VonMayhem didn’t pass away, but that his students, his “creations” turned on him. No one will ever know. Now, today, the building has been turned into the Pilot Community Center for use by the local people for celebrations and such. But no one dares rent it past dusk. Many have said that if you are in the building at night, you can experience exactly what used to happen behind those walls; the terror, the chaos, the. . .Mayhem. Come join us if you will. See if you can survive a night at Mayhem Manor. Or will you join the numerous institutionalized boys and girls whose curiosity forever changed their lives? For four nights only, you can get your chance to become one of Mayhem’s misfits. . .IF YOU DARE!!! Visit http://www.mayhemmanor.wordpress.com or find us on facebook for more information. Be prepared to be scared! Pilot Community Center, 4449 Brush Creek Road Pilot ,VA 24139.

Quick Decision On Halloween
All Halloween Pages are now in the “Appalachian Autumn” tab.
Halloween is one of those things that can be good or evil depending on the how you participate in it.I have been wrestling with this question for the past week. Here are some of my reasons why I like Halloween.
- This holiday falls on the eve of All Saints Day, which is a festival day celebrated by some Christian churches. However, the modern celebration of Halloween is not generally thought of as a Christian time of worship.
- You could celebrate Reformation Day (as we did in my christian academy). This is the day Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door.
- Some Halloween activities could be considered anti-Christian and those activities should be avoided.
- Doc Halloween and crew does not participate in demon or devil worshiping, evil or criminal acts, superstitious acts, or chant and rites spells nor do we encourage any evolvement.
- Trick-or-treating, decorating, or visiting haunted-houses is not thinking about or participating in any religious festivities. To me they are just fun activities.
- Whether to participate in Halloween is a question only for parents to answer.
- How you decide to teach your small children about participating responsibly during Halloween is your responsibility.
You will have to pray about it and ask for guidance from God and Jesus above.
Learn to think for yourself, be open minded, be a critical thinker and decide these simple questions:
- Do I know myself realistically?
- Do I know my morals, my beliefs, my limitations, my weaknesses, and my values?
- How does this make me feel?
- Is this hurting myself or someone else (physically, spiritually, emotionally, and/or financially)?
- Is this illegal?
- Do I have all the information I need to make the decision that is right for me?
If you do not like Halloween or its representation of it then do not participate.
Some Changes
My sister is slowly helping get used to this new iMac. It is different from a PC and hard to remember the commands. I am learning though.
There are some changes around Doc Halloween Presents. Under “About” is Doc’s favorite Bible verses. Gone is all of the Halloween pages (I will probably explain later down the road but below area few places that is unbalancing my decision). I have replaced “Halloween” with “Appalachian Autumn” until I decide which way to go.
Some things that got my mind stirring about Halloween again:

Fall Foliage Report for Roanoke Virginia Area
The Virginia Department of Forestry says peak foliage is expected by late October until early November. Late October and early November is expected for peak color for the Coastal and Piedmont areas. Expect peak colors in the mountains mid to late October.
At my house near Roanoke VA there is very little color changes. Most everything is still green with a few exceptions. It has been dry here most of the summer and then two tropical systems came through and dumped a lot of rain. I suspect that some trees are dropping their leaves to conserve energy and the water is dulling the colors. That is probably why I have a few trees with shriveled brown leaf droppings under them. My bet is that the colors will get much more brilliant.
The top picture is from my backyard deck taken this morning. The bottom picture is out by my garage also taken this morning. I will have to fire up the leaf blower for the driveway soon.
You can find more information about Autumn colors at Doc’s web site: http://dochalloween.wordpress.com/halloween/autumn-colors-leaves/
