Gratitude Day Is Everyday

Yeah, its Thanksgiving time once again. The time of year we look back and give thanks for the things we have in our lives. I do not know about you but every day, twice a day or more, I am giving thanks to the one who has given me everything I have; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spiriteach equally and eternally the one true God.

Perhaps you are not feeling very thankful this year: your car needs repair; you lost your job; you or a loved one is sick; you can not pay your bills; you are isolated from family or friends; you have an enemy or bully making your life miserable. The prophet Habakkuk knows of these problems in the book of Habakkuk. His country was going to be destroyed because of their evil and disobedient ways. But Habakkuk rejoiced and praised God through all the bad things happening, “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen an no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” (Habakkuk 3:17-18)

Give thanks for God’s unfailing goodness (Psalms 106:1); for His holy name (Psalms 30:4); for deliverance from sin (Romans 7:24-25); for the victory over death (1 Chronicles 15:56-57); and for God’s nearness (Hebrews 13:5).

Showing our gratitude is important in human relationships. The whole reason for saying thanks is to let the giver of a gift know how much you appreciate something. Thank about the blessings you have received. God provides everything for us. Think about the huge gift; His son dying and then being resurrected to forgive us of our sins. Who deserves the most thanks but God.

“Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.” (1 Chronicles 16:8-10)

“Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy in his dwelling place. Ascribe to the Lord, O families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength, ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name. Bring an offering and come before him; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness. Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among nations, ‘The Lord reigns!’ Let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them! Then the trees of the forest will sing, they will sing for joy before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” (1 Chronicles 16:23-34)

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have agains one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:12-17)

There is a little more than being thankful for the many blessings. “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that confess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” (Hebrews 13:15-16) Our thanks to God should always be accompanied by helping those in need. Remember, there are always those whom have less than you or I.

Giving thanks to God for His goodness and provision is to be a continuing celebration for His people. Do not wait until Thanksgiving to express your thankfulness to God. Spend time telling Him each day how much you appreciate what He has done for you and what He has provided for you. We have much to be thankful for every single day. God continually provides for ALL our needs. Make Thanksgiving a daily and not a yearly celebration.
